Report: CXNE Round 7 - Teeside CRC 'Cross

The 7th Round of the Cyclo-cross North East League was held at a new venue in Stainton, near Barnard Castle. It was held by kind permission of the Hinchcliff family who let Teesdale CRC have use of their fields.

The venue is a former army barracks and had a good mixture of tarmac paths and grass sections giving the riders a frequent change of terrain. And being on the top of a hill it was in a picturesque setting of the lower Northern Pennines.

The overnight rain and the near zero morning temperatures did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the riders at Round 7.

The U12 race saw Thomas Mein take an early lead and he got away from the rest of the field within half a lap, he then proceeded to build the lead. In second place Fin Robertson pushed hard but could not bridge the gap, behind him Christian Worner put in a strong ride to take third.

The Youth race saw the total dominance of Edwyn Olliver-Evans (East Bradford CC) with the local fast rider Mike Thompson (Richardson CC) chasing hard but unable to reach him and behind him in third place was James Edmond who put in a solid ride.

The main race of the day saw Paul Oldham (Hope Factory Racing) firmly in charge as he made light work of the course. Steven Ward (MTS) was flying and doggedly pursued Oldham but he didn't cause Oldham much uncomfort. The battle for third was an epic fight between Keith Murray (Hope Factory Racing) and top Junior Adam Martin (Black Hawk Bikes), it came down to the last lap where Murray dug deep to take the 3rd place.
