Charlotte Green is out to strengthen her overall UCI BMX Supercross World Cup ranking in Papendal.

The 19-year-old finished fourth at the opening meeting at the National BMX Centre in Manchester with her performance earning a call-up to the Great Britain team for the second round of the series from 10-11 May.

“Going into Papendal I've got a good chance of staying in the top eight,” Green said. “So by the end of the supercross season hopefully I'll finish in a good position in the overall series.”

Currently one of the top eight female athletes, Green will not ride in Saturday’s qualification motos.

Instead she will contest the time-trial superfinal before joining the racing on Sunday at the quarter-final stage.

Unlike Great Britain’s training base in Manchester, the Olympic Training Centre in Arhem is an outdoor course with riders having to contend with the weather as well as each other.

“I guess the biggest thing to deal with is the wind and the weather but I believe it won’t affect me too much,” Green said.

“I think you have got to just put that to one side and just carry on and deal with whatever you have got.”

Ahead of the trip to the Netherlands, Green - along with world champion Liam Phillips and Kyle Evans in the three-strong squad - has been training at the recently opened BMX track at Bruntwood Park in Cheadle, Stockport.

“It's only three weeks' gap between Manchester and Papendal so we've been doing some outside work, I'm sure there'll be plenty of good preparation.”

Green reached the semi-finals when the world cup visited Papendal in 2013 but hopes to better that result having taken belief from her first round performance.

“The biggest thing I learnt was to take the confidence from the start,” Green said.

“I raced at Papendal last year, I was only on the Olympic Development Programme then, and I reached the semi-finals.

“It's a big track, it has got some big jumps on it but it's not too scary compared to this (Manchester) so I think I should be fine.”

Fans will be able to watch the UCI BMX Supercross in Papendal on the British Cycling website.
