Great Britain’s Liam Phillips was sixth in the elite men’s time-trial superfinal at the third round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Berlin on Friday.

The 25-year-old, who currently leads the series, set a time of 38.619 seconds on a technical course at the Mellowpark as Latvia’s Edzus Treimanis won in 37.776 seconds.

Fellow Briton Kyle Evans stopped the clock in 39.555 seconds to finish 13th in the 16-rider field.

Time-trial results do not earn points to the overall series rankings.

Earlier Tre Whyte returned to world cup action after missing the second round in Papendal and qualified comfortably for Saturday’s 1/8 finals.

Whyte, 20, took a second place and two wins in his three motos to finish sixth in qualifying with the top 48 riders progressing.

He will join Phillips and Evans in the final 64, the latter two receiving a bye to Saturday’s racing as part of the 16 top-ranked riders who instead compete in the time-trial superfinal.

Australian Caroline Buchanan won the elite women’s time-trial in 31.952 seconds.

British rider Abbie Taylor successfully qualified for Saturday’s quarter-finals with first, fourth and eighth-place finishes respectively in her three heats.

The competition concludes on Saturday.
