Great Britain’s Liam Phillips narrowly missed out on a medal as he finished fourth in the time-trial at the 2014 UCI BMX World Championships.

Phillips, who will defend his supercross racing title on Sunday, set a time of 25.021 seconds at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam.

Australian Sam Willoughby won the title of world time-trial champion and rainbow jersey with a time of 24.757 seconds.

American Corben Sharrah was second with Frenchman Joris Daudet third.

Phillips, 25, was sixth in the time-trial qualifying in 25.233 seconds as the top 16 went through to the evening’s superfinal.

Kyle Evans, 30th in the time-trial, along with Tre Whyte (42nd), Ryan Stack (79th) and Billy Luckhurst (80th) will all join Phillips in Sunday’s motos.

In the women’s time-trial, Britain’s Abbie Taylor finished 21st in 29.042 seconds with 38 riders moving forward.

Dutch rider Laura Smulders won the world title ahead of Australian Caroline Buchanan and Olympic champion Mariana Pajon.

In the junior categories, Quillan Isidore and Valerie Zebrakova both qualified from the men’s and women’s ime-trial respectively.

Sunday sees the supercross world champions decided with live video from the championships on the British Cycling website.
