British Cycling has today confirmed the riders selected to represent Great Britain at the first round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup taking place at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester on the 18 - 19 April.

Liam Phillips, who won the World Cup Series in 2014, will be in action as will Tre Whyte who won the bronze medal at the 2014 UCI World Championships.

BMX Podium coach Grant White said: “Since Liam won the world championship title in 2013, British Cycling’s BMX Programme has continued to progress and we’ve seen some strong results from all the riders at an international level, including Tre Whyte winning the bronze medal at the 2014 world championships.

“We’ve now entered the qualifying period for the Olympic Games in Rio so I’m keen to see this progression continue during the build-up. Manchester is always a great event and the riders benefit from the home support so it’s an advantage for us to start the world cup season at our home track.

“An additional benefit to a home world cup is that it gives the talented younger riders on the programme who don’t quite make the official team selection a chance to compete – so this year we will have Olympic Development Programme riders Paddy Sharrock and Ryan Hutchinson competing which is an invaluable opportunity for their development.”
