Great Britain’s Shanaze Reade maintained her 100% record in this year’s UCI BMX Supercross with a fantastic time trial win in Santiago del Estero, Argentina.

The 24-year-old, who won both the time trial and Supercross racing at round one in Manchester, posted a time of 35.217 in the Superfinal to finish ahead of Colombia’s Olympic champion Mariana Pajon and France’s Eva Ailloud.

Liam Phillips, won also took two wins at the first round at the National BMX Centre, ended fifth to ensure both Britons qualify through to Saturday’s racing.

“It’s awesome, to race the time trials today and to finish on top, I’m really, really happy,” said Reade after her win as South America welcomed its first ever BMX world cup event.

“The fans have been absolutely amazing, getting behind all the riders, it’s been really good.”

Reade was imperious on her way to the victory in the elite women’s contest with two unswerving rides. Her first effort of the day, a lap of 35.234, was nearly a second quicker than nearest placed Ailloud and booked her place in the evening’s Superfinal.

There, the last out of 12 riders, Reade fractionally beat her earlier time to extend her overall lead in the series.

Phillips was also consistent through his two runs. Going out last as winner of the previous round in April, his effort of 32.586 was enough for fifth in the qualifying run as world time trial champion Connor Fields of the USA topped the leader board.

In the Superfinal, an almost identical time of 32.514 again saw the 25-year-old end in fifth with Fields untouchable to take the victory.

Tomorrow sees the moto racing begin with Reade and Phillips both seeded favourably due to their high ranking in the time trial, with all the action available to watch live on the British Cycling website.
