Welsh Cycling is delighted to announce a new commercial partnership with leading sports nutrition brand Ultimate Sport Nutrition (USN). The 3 year agreement which will run until 2015 will see USN secure naming rights to the Welsh Cycling managed UCI Track Cycling World Cup team, as well as becoming Official Supplier of nutritional products to the national governing body.

USN has joined forces with Welsh Cycling to become the principle partner of the newly formed elite track team, formerly Team SWI WC, competing in the UCI Track Cycling World Cup series. The partnership means the track team debut as Team USN in the Glasgow leg of the series on Nov 16-18, with the sponsorship providing essential funding alongside expert nutritional advice and the supply of vital nutritional products as the team compete against the world’s best track cyclists.

Jon Mould and Lewis Oliva will compete at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for Team USN

The track team boasts some of the sport’s most exciting prospects, with the likes of world junior time trial champion Elinor Barker, double world junior track championship medallist Amy Roberts and World Cup medallist Ciara Horne. Jon Mould, former European and national track champion, also wears the ‘Team USN’ jersey having made a medal winning start on his debut in the last world cup race in Colombia alongside team mate Lewis Oliva, current British national track champion and another rising star of Welsh Cycling.

As part of the new partnership, USN will also become the Official Nutrition Partner of Welsh Cycling, providing the nutritional supplements, support and expert advice for Welsh Cycling riders at all levels.  It is this shared desire to help the development and performance of cyclists in Wales at every level of the sport that makes this such an exciting partnership for both parties.

Speaking on the prospect of working with Welsh Cycling, Karl Bickley, events manager and athlete liaison at USN said: “USN – Ultimate Sports Nutrition are proud to become the principle partner of Welsh Cycling’s elite track team. We have a great passion for performance sport and are massively excited at the prospect of working closely with the team to help fuel on-track performance as well as preparation and recovery in the lead up to and during the Commonwealth Games in 2014."

Team USN, who also receive funding and support from Sport Wales, has had a fantastic start to the World Cup series, claiming two podium finishes in the first event in Cali, Colombia, with silver in the women’s team pursuit and bronze for Jon Mould in the men’s points race, competing under the Team SWI-WC banner.

With the additional support and backing that the new partnership provides, Team USN will be looking to build on its successful debut in front of a packed house at the next event in the World Cup series, taking place in Glasgow on 16th – 18th November 2012, which is also the inaugural event at the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Commenting on the launch of the new partnership with USN, Matt Cosgrove, Performance Director for Welsh Cycling said: “This new partnership is fantastic news for the team and our group of very talented, young riders. The agreement with USN and their commitment to elite cycling in Wales over the next 3 years represents the growth of both Welsh Cycling as an organisation and the medal winning potential of our athletes. The track team is an integral part of the Welsh Cycling Performance Programme and we are determined to give our riders the best possible chance to develop and improve in the build up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The riders had a fantastic start to the World Cup series in Colombia and with the added support of USN and their nutritional products, we believe our riders can maximise their potential and succeed on the world stage.”
