Scottish Cycling’s RACE Programme is designed to support riders to develop and progress onto the Great Britain Cycling Team programmes and UCI Professional Teams. The programme is designed to support the development of skills and characteristics needed to thrive both in life and in a professional bike-riding career.

Programme activity provides riders with the opportunity to work with Scottish Cycling performance staff, focusing on areas key of rider development.

Which disciplines are involved in RACE?

BMX Racing

Cyclocross

MTB XC

MTB DH

Track / Road - Endurance

Track - Sprint

How do you get on to RACE Programme ?

Riders are typically a final year Youth B and Youth A rider.  Programme generally involves an application process which commences at different points in the year for different disciplines.  Riders who develop late, who are new to the sport, or who are not quite ready will continue to be considered for selection throughout the entire year via club or cluster activity coach recommendation- the door is always open for riders to enter this stage of the pathway.  For more details see the below RACE Programme Information links.

When and where do RACE Programme sessions take place?

Sessions will be delivered and will align with the racing season. Activity will take place in different parts of Scotland depending on the discipline.  Frequently used facilities include Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Caird Park (Track), Fife Cycle Park (Road), Glentress (MTB XC), Knightswood BMX Centre and Cumbernauld BMX Track (BMX)

If I am not quite ready for RACE, how can I further prepare?

Yout local Scottish Cycling club will be a great place to further develop yourself.  In addition, there are many discipline specific training clusters around the country where Scottish Cycling supports clubs to come together to offer development opportunities for youth riders who wish to progress their racing skills.  For more information you should speak to your club coach or email performance@scottishcycling.org.uk
