British Cycling can today announce that the 2022 HSBC UK | National Cyclo-cross Championships will be held at the South of England Showground in Crawley.
The venue was due to hold the 2021 championships earlier this month, however the event was sadly cancelled due to the current restrictions in place across the UK. Along with the national championships we are also pleased to say that two cancelled rounds of the HSBC UK | Cyclo-cross National Trophy Series have been successfully rescheduled: Derby on September 18-19, and Gravesend on December 11-12.
Westmorland County Showground in Cumbria, which hosted the only round of the 2020/21 national trophy series, will return to the calendar once again from October 9-10, while two new venues complete the series. These are Callendar Park in Falkirk (23-24 October) and Herrington Country Park in Sunderland (20-21 November).
Dougie Fox, of national championships organisers Crawley Wheelers Cycling Club, said:
“The disappointment we have all felt over the last 12 months has turned into excitement as we get the wheels back in motion for the new season and prepare for the 2022 national championships.
“Our events team has already started the hard work to ensure the South of England Showground is competition-ready for the flagship event and what we know will be a memorable weekend of racing.”
British Cycling’s Head of Sport and Major Events, Jonathan Day, added:
“We understand and share the frustration and disappointment felt by the cyclo-cross community over recent months due to the lack of consistent racing opportunities, which has been forced by the impact of the pandemic. Despite this we hope that the early publication of next season’s calendar will help to provide rider’s with fresh goals and targets for the year ahead.
“We know that Crawley Wheelers Cycling Club will do a fantastic job of hosting the calendar’s showpiece event, and we’re delighted that the Club has committed to hosting the 2022 championships after the disappointing cancellation of the 2021 event, while it is always great to welcome new and exciting venues like Callendar Park and Herrington Country Park to the series.
“We are determined to build on the progress we have made over recent years and continue to drive the cyclo-cross forwards at all levels, and we are excited to share our long-term plans for the discipline in the coming months.”
