Lancashire club Pendle Panthers have today been named as Bikmo’s British Cycling Club of the Year, earning them a prize of £1,000 to invest in new BMX bikes to support the delivery of activities for young people.
Now in its second year, the Club of the Year Award is a key part of British Cycling’s partnership with specialist cycling insurer Bikmo, and the two organisations can today announce a five-year extension to the relationship.
Based at the Steven Burke Sports Hub in Pendle, Pendle Panthers boast 150 members and pride themselves on creating an inclusive environment for all, with riders of all ages and abilities. The club hosts regular sessions for women and girls and has also worked hard to support more local people from the Asian community to discover the joys of cycling.

British Cycling’s Lead BMX SX Coach, Marcus Bloomfield, said:
“Bikmo’s Club of the Year initiative facilitates more opportunities for clubs to grow the sport and make cycling enjoyable for all. The work that Pendle Panthers have done so far in making BMX accessible to all is fantastic, and this award is testament to the hard work of their community of coaches, riders and volunteers.”
Since launching in 2019 the partnership between British Cycling and Bikmo has provided British Cycling members with discounted, award-winning and comprehensive bike and travel cover.
All British Cycling members get the option of 14 days free insurance for their new bikes to cover their first rides, and Bikmo have also worked with underwriter Hiscox to offer better pricing for members, as data showed that as a group they represent a lower than average risk.
David George, CEO of Bikmo said:
‘’It’s been fantastic to see the increase in diversity of clubs and the riders they represent during this years competition and therefore says a lot about how strong Cycle Sport Pendle / Pendle Panthers proposition is for it to be a clear winner.
‘’We’re delighted to be supporting the club to invest in BMXs to hire out for their community which we hope will inspire a new generation of riders to get active on 2 wheels.‘’
