Applications for the £15 million Places to Ride legacy fund close in a year’s time, and the fund’s deliverers - British Cycling, Sport England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) – are encouraging those wishing to create a legacy in their own community to apply.
Closing to new bids on 15 January 2021, the Places to Ride programme has already seen grants awarded across England, ranging from equipment packs to major new facilities, in places such as:
• Doncaster Cycle Track – host venue for the junior women’s and U23 men’s road world championships road races in September 2019;
• The Colchester Northern Gateway Sports Park development;
• Adrenaline Alley in Corby (BMX Freestyle Park);
• Access Sport community BMX tracks in London and Bristol;
• Equipment to support people with a disability to cycle in Manchester;
• Grass bikes in the East Midlands in association with the local cycling club;
• Static bikes in 50 care homes to support older people and those suffering with dementia to by physically active.
From inspiring people to ride, to connecting the community with equipment or small-medium scale facility improvements, the Places to Ride fund is perfect for any organisation that is developing cycling activity in their community and looking to provide traffic-free opportunities for people to participate.
