As you know, we announced last month that our current Chief Executive Officer, Julie Harrington, will be leaving British Cycling in the new year.

Julie and the executive leadership team at British Cycling have done some fantastic work since she joined the organisation in May 2017 and I am very excited to be leading the Board in recruiting for what I have described as one of the best jobs in British sport.

The British Cycling Board is made up of elected directors and independent non-executive directors. Whilst the majority of the Board is elected by our members via our National Council, or nominated by the home nations and English regions, the independent non-executive directors, including myself, are appointed through an open recruitment process with the aim of bringing relevant expertise to the Board to enable our federation to deliver the best possible service for our members.

That combination – people who have the heritage of cycling in Britain in their bones and people who have insights from other sectors – is a really powerful one. And one which can come into its own as we look for our next Chief Executive Officer.

We have appointed a recruitment consultancy who have been charged with finding the best candidate to work in your interests. I wanted to write to you my fellow members today and encourage anyone who feels they have the experience and the ability to lead our federation to consider the opportunity. There are over 160,000 of us and, as Chair, I am very keen to unlock the strength and potential of that membership.

I would encourage you to look at the job advert and – if you have the skills, knowledge, experience and passion required – we would love to hear from you.
