British Cycling can today confirm the dates and venues of the 2021 National Track Series, National Grass Track Series and National Youth Omnium Series.
Following the disruption we have seen across all disciplines this year, we are pleased to say that a large number of organisers have opted to ‘roll on’ their dates to 2021, meaning there will be a total of 31 meetings across the three series.
While dates for the National Masters Track Championships (Newport, 24 - 27 June Updated) and National Youth & Junior Track Championships (Glasgow, 25 - 29 July) have been confirmed, we are continuing to explore options for the HSBC UK | National Track Championships, which were due to take place in Manchester in January but have been postponed due to the pandemic. As a result, National Track Series dates are subject to change.
This will be the first year that the National Youth Omnium Series will be run in its new format, following the cancellation of the 2020 series. We have sought to include as many dates as possible to reduce the need to travel, and to account for the higher likelihood of event cancellations due to local restrictions.
Rounds have been spread as much as possible on each weekend, however this has been dependent on organiser and venue availability. We have aimed to give riders more flexibility in which rounds they compete in, and a rider’s best three results will count towards their ranking.
British Cycling Head of Sport and Major Events, Jonathan Day, said:
“Despite the continuing uncertainty caused by the pandemic we’re pleased that we can now look ahead to a really comprehensive calendar of track events in 2021. As always, we’re incredibly thankful to the event organisers and venues who have worked with us to coordinate the three series, and as we move into 2021 we look forward to working with them and other stakeholders even more closely to fulfil our long-term ambitions for the discipline.”
