This weekend saw the opening round of the Under-23 National Road Series down in the south west, while across the channel in France we had British riders battling for podiums at Paris-Roubaix and the Paris 2024 BMX racing test event.
Stars of the South West
Dylan Hicks of Saint Piran overcame the blustery Devon conditions to take the victory in the opening round of this year’s Open Under-23 National Road Series.
Hicks was in an early break with David Hird (Cycling Sheffield) and Luke Brennan (BCC) which stayed through to the end of the race, with only Saint Piran teammate Rowan Baker able to bridge the gap to join them, despite the best efforts of the chasing bunch.
Baker took second place to make it a Saint Piran 1-2, with Hird rounding off the podium in third.
Thanks to the team on the South West Road Race Work Group for organising the race. The series continues on Sunday 21 April with the PB Performance Espoirs Road Race.
Paris Roubaix
It was a successful weekend for British riders at Paris-Roubaix, with Pfeiffer Georgi third in the women’s race, Bob Donaldson second in Paris-Roubaix Espoirs, and Seb Grindley 11th in the junior men’s race.
Fred Wright was Britain’s highest finisher in the men’s race, in 13th.
Paris 2024 test event
Our Great Britain Cycling Team BMX riders put down a strong marker in the Paris 2024 test event, with both Beth Shriever and Ross Cullen taking impressive victories on the Olympic Games track.
A hugely beneficial experience for the whole squad, there were further impressive performances from Paddy Sharrock (fifth) and Emily Hutt (ninth), and the team now have their sights fixed on the upcoming world cup rounds and world championships.
