British Cycling Volunteer of the Year Awards now open for applications

The British Cycling Volunteer of the Year awards are now open for applications, with four new categories available for nominations as we look to recognise remarkable achievement and service within our community.

The awards will be presented at our annual awards evening on Saturday 26 October, which will once again take place in The Point at Emirates Old Trafford, and will be the first time volunteers across England, Scotland and Wales will receive national recognition for their commitment and dedication to the sport. This year we will be inviting nominations for four new volunteer awards, with categories including Values Champion, Connecting the Community, Inspiring Future Generations and Young Volunteer of the Year.

Nominate for Volunteer of the Year 2024

Nominate for Young Volunteer of the Year 2024

All winning volunteers invited to the Awards Ceremony will be able to claim back expenses for travel and accommodation up to £200 for them and their guest.

The winner of each category will get £250 cash and the winner of the overall Volunteer of the Year will also recieve lifetime membership of British Cycling and x2 VIP tickets to a major cycling event in the UK in the next 12 months.

Volunteer of the Year award

The awards have been designed to recognise the amazing commitment and service of volunteers across our community, whether they’re supporting racing, participation programmes and clubs, or children and young people.

To qualify, all nominations must demonstrate the following: 

  • The individual must volunteer with a British Cycling, Welsh Cycling or Scottish Cycling linked programme, activity, event or cycling club.
  • The individual is aware they are being nominated, and is happy to share their name and image (if provided) shared.
  • The individual shares the values of British Cycling (excellence, teamwork, integrity, accountability, inclusivity), Welsh Cycling (inspiration, empowerment, integrity) or Scottish Cycling (respect, innovation, doing it together, empathy, resilience). These awards will be shortlisted with prominence placed on the relevant values. 
  • Must hold at least British Cycling Supporter Membership.
  Volunteer of the Year award

Values Champion

The Values Champion is for an individual that embodies all of the values of British Cycling, Welsh Cycling or Scottish Cycling (values stated above). The individual must be passionate about cycling, be a beacon of inspiration to others and helps to bring the joy of cycling to everyone.

Connecting the Community

The Volunteer of the Year award for Connecting the Community will be awarded to an individual who leads by example in positively impacting their community and helping to enrich people’s lives through a cycling-based initiative and/or activity. The individual must bring people together and be passionate about creating inclusive environments.

Inspiring Future Generations

The Inspiring Future Generations award will be given to an individual who has created inspiring opportunities for young people in cycling. They must regularly volunteer to support young people involved in cycling who are under 18-years-old.

Young Volunteer of the Year

The Young Volunteer of the Year award is for volunteers aged 25 or under on 31 December 2024. The individual must be passionate about cycling and inspiring others to get involved or be more involved in the sport. You can put forward your nominations for the Young Volunteer of the Year award here.
