British Cycling’s Limitless programme has been shortlisted for the ‘Cycling for All’ award at the inaugural UCI Cycling for All & Sustainability Awards which will take place in December.
Limitless – supported by Shell UK - is British Cycling’s disability-inclusive cycling programme which provides cycling opportunities for disabled people, regardless of age, impairment and ability. It is reaching the end of its second year after launching in February 2023 and it continues to go from strength to strength.
British Cycling has engaged with over 3500 disabled people which originally had an overall engagement target of 5000 people across four years.
There are currently over 65 Limitless Champion Clubs and 17 Limitless Focus Clubs operating across the country, with excellent examples in locations such as Cornwall, Yorkshire, Kent, Scotland and Wales, showing the breadth and depth of the programme in its early stages.
Over 1100 Limitless sessions have been delivered by the programme so far, creating opportunities nationwide for disabled people to access cycling.
This year, as part of unique partnership with British Adaptive Cycle manufacturer, ICE Trikes,13 recumbent ICE Trikes have been delivered to clubs across the country, in England, Wales and Scotland providing access to specialist adaptive equipment to disabled people.
The introduction of Limitless Race Days has seen a new format for entry level racing develop, making cycling more accessible for all. One example of this is through the CX Limitless Lines which has created integrated competition for disabled people in the sport.
Through the Shell UK partnership which funds the disability sport programme – which is unique in the UK sporting landscape - Limitless clubs can access funding to develop opportunities tailored for disabled riders, such as procuring essential equipment, training and CPD, enhancing facilities, to deliver disability inclusive opportunities which showcase cycling is truly for all.
