Dalby Wins 2011 World Cup Bid

Dalby has won its bid to host the World Cup cross country again in 2011 and Fort William will celebrate a decade of World Cup racing it has been announced.

British Cycling will once more host the Dalby XC World Cup, this time as round two of the series, and the first round in Europe. Set for the weekend of May 21-22, Dalby's inclusion comes as established venues in previous years have been phased out; including Fort William, Houffalize, Schladming and Madrid.

A new generation of World Cup tracks featuring shorter more compact laps and centred around easy spectator and television access was spearheaded by Offenburg and followed up by Dalby in 2010.

And while the cross country circuit undergoes mass-reinvention, the downhill circuit is retaining one of its all-time classics; Fort William.

Now in its tenth year of hosting world-class events, culminating in the 2007 World Championships, Fort William is renowned for healthy spectator numbers, an unbeatable atmosphere and one of the longest and most physical tracks.

This year the downhill course was reworked and received critical acclaim once more, while the fourcross track is due a mass overhaul before the 2011 event takes place on June 4-5.
