Limited places left for Ride to the Horns Sportive
Ride to the Horns Sportive
Event: 3rd July 2011
Wheels in Wheels Events Ltd, organisers of the BeOne Forest of Dean Classic sportive, are pleased to announce entries are filling fast for their latest sportive.
This is fourth edition of the popular Ride to the Horns sportive based in Mentmore, Bucks, where there will be two routes available taking in the best the Chilterns have to offer in the area.
Starting and finishing on the village green in Mentmore near Leighton Buzzard, the Ride to the Horns is a 97 mile route through the picturesque and challenging roads of the Chilterns.
The ride takes in some of the roads used in the Tour of Britain and Archer Grand Prix as well as Brill before returning to the classic Chiltern climbs of Whiteleaf, the Crong, Dunsmore and the Hale, which precede the Ivinghoe Beacon and the final climb up to Whipsnade and Dunstable Downs.
Following on from rider feedback from last year's event, we have made a few small changes to the long course to avoid some of the busier main roads towards the end.
If you don't feel up to the 97 mile ride there is also a 50 mile option which has a new route for this year. Two different 25 mile loops take in some of the roads and climbs from the main ride and will still provide a decent workout.
Each course will be fully signposted; have well stocked feed stops and mechanical assistance on route as well as at the start/finish.
Families are also catered for with the family ride which is a seven mile route on quiet roads suitable for all abilities. The entry fee to the family ride is a donation to the nominated charities.
Entries are restricted to 500 so early entry is advised. Entries on the day will also be accepted but will carry a £5.00 surcharge.
Mentmore is situated in the beds/ bucks border, only 35 miles from central London, 9 miles from Aylesbury and a short 4 miles from Leighton Buzzard.
