Turn up to a bike race and you'll be greeted by plenty of hustle and bustle, friendly faces and, of course, bikes. Lots of bikes. But beyond the riders getting ready to race, there’s a whole community of marshals, medics, tea-makers and other volunteers that the sport simply couldn’t exist without.
As part of Everyone Wins we are showcasing the incredible commitment and passion behind every start line, showing you snippets of event life from the side of the course, at race HQ and inside our brilliant club network. Our Everyone Wins campaign sets out to celebrate and invigorate grassroots racing following the pandemic and recognise the hard work that goes into organising and running events.
We also want to highlight the range of opportunities to volunteer, and all of the amazing things you can get out of it. From developing new skills or picking up a new hobby in retirement, through to meeting new people and being a vital supporter of the sport you love: everyone wins.
A big thank you
“Bike races take place every week of the year and each requires an enormous amount of effort, motivation and commitment from the team of volunteers involved. While we know riders continuously show their thanks, the entire cycling community owes a lot to the individuals running events and making sure they do so safely.
"As racing gets back underway please do spare a thought for all of the time donated by those who are passionate about their sport – and why not consider getting involved yourself to ensure the next generation have plenty of opportunities to race too?
"Thank you to all of our volunteers and officials and we hope you enjoy your race seasons as they unfold.”
