The 2018 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup gets underway in France this weekend with a strong British contingent heading across the Channel.
Six riders will represent the Great Britain Cycling Team with a mix of Senior and Development Squad athletes at rounds one and two of this year’s competition in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
About the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup
Held over four weekends and two continents, the UCI BMX Supercross features eight rounds of racing.
Rounds one and two take place in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines over Easter weekend, with rounds three and four in Papendal in the Netherlands on 5-6 May.
The following weekend, rounds five and six take place in Heusden-Zolder in Belgium before the final weekend of racing sees rounds seven and eight in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, on 29-30 September.
Racing begins with round one, where the top four riders from each heat progress directly to the next stage - the qualifiers.
Those who do not get through at this stage enter the last chance round - where the top two make it through to the qualifiers.
Subject to the total number of riders competing, the qualifiers see a number of heats take place with the top four progressing to the next round, until just eight riders remain for the final - the winner of this race is crowned the world cup round winner.
Riders receive points based on their overall finishing position in each round, with a men’s and women’s world cup champion declared at the end of the competition.
The team
Six riders have been named in the Great Britain Cycling Team squad for the world cup season opener in France.
Four members of the BMX Senior Squad will be in action with Kyle Evans in a rich vein of form following his win in the second round of the UEC BMX European Cup last weekend in Verona.
Evans is joined by brothers Tre and Kye Whyte, as well as Quillan Isidore. Paddy Sharrock withdrew from the squad as he continues the final stages of his rehabilitation from a recent shoulder injury.
Two riders will make their world cup debuts over Easter weekend, with the Development Squad’s Tian Isidore and Ross Cullen - who took the junior men’s win in the second round of the UEC BMX European Cup in Italy - in action.
Elissa Bradford has also been forced to withdraw from the squad - delaying her world cup debut - as a result of injuries sustained at the European Cup last weekend.

The venue
The International BMX Stadium at the French National Cyclism Centre in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines will host its first-ever rounds of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup this weekend.
The centre is best known for hosting track cycling at its neighbouring velodrome. Opened in 2014, it has a capacity of around 1,800 spectators and the track has a total length of 410 metres, with an eight-metre high supercross starting ramp.
Around 25km west of the centre of Pais, Saint-Qunetin-en-Yvelines is a new town built in the 1960s and has a population of around 230,000. It is home to Le Golf National, a private golf course that will host the 42nd Ryder Cup this September.
