British Cycling can now confirm that the number of places available in each class at the 2019 UCI BMX Challenge World Championships has been increased to 14 + 2 wildcard positions.

The BMX commission acknowledged the opportunity to increase the quota, with British Cycling implementing a safeguarding strategy, and the UCI being able to issue staff accreditation which is proportionate to the number of under-18 riders attending the event.

Riders who wish to compete in the 2019 UCI BMX World Championships will need to qualify through the 2018 HSBC UK | BMX National Series.

General

There are a total of 16 positions available, as designated by the UCI (14 automatic + two wildcards) available in each of the following classes:

Boys: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16

Girls: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16

Men: 17-24, 25-25, 30-34, 35+

Women: 17-24, 25+

Cruiser boys: 12 and under, 13-14, 15-16

Cruiser Girls: 16 and under

Cruiser men: 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50+

Cruiser women: 17-29, 30-39, 40+

1. All riders must hold a valid British Cycling silver or gold membership and full racing licence.
2. The minimum age for entry is race age 9 (2010)

Eligibility

Riders will qualify as follows:

Prequalified (in addition to the available places):

• World challenge finalists from Baku 2018, W1 – W8

For categories age eight boys / girls (2018 age) – by application to British Cycling via the online form:

• Only riders of a proven national ability will be considered by the panel. 

For categories age nine – 15 boys / girls (2018 age):

• The top 14 from the 2018 series standings will qualify for their 2019 age group. - (Where a rider is competing in a higher age group, providing they finish in the top 14 in that age group, they will qualify in the correct licence age class. In such a case, they would replace the lowest ranked qualifier in the lower age group).

For categories age 16 boys / girls (2018 age):

• The top five from the series standings will qualify for 17-24 in 2019

For categories 17 – 24 men / women:

• Top nine from the series standings. Riders who compete in Championship Women and Superclass take precedence.

For all other classes, 10 will automatically qualify, with other places being offered once riders moving age groups have been considered, making the total of 14.

(The reason that the above classes have an initial lower allocation is to allow for riders moving age classes in 2019 and to avoid oversubscription)

1. Riders who qualify on 20” do not automatically qualify for cruiser and vice-versa. Riders who wish to ride both categories will be required to qualify on both bikes  
2. There is no secondary phase of qualification
3. In the event of an unforeseen number of riders changing category in the following year, causing an over subscription of a class, the lowest ranked rider would not qualify.
4. A rider’s best seven results from the HSBC UK | BMX National Series are taken to obtain an overall standing. The minimum number of rounds to qualify is four.
5. Junior and Elite will be selection only by Great Britain Cycling Team. 

Wildcards

1. Wildcards will be selected by a selection panel which will consist of two members of the commission and the British Cycling BMX Coordinator.
2. Riders who reside outside of the UK can apply for a wildcard, but must be able to provide results and significant evidence of their ability to compete at the highest level.
3. Only riders with proven National ability will be considered for a wildcard position.

Clothing          

1. It is mandatory for all riders to wear the National jersey at all times during the competition and podium presentations.
