The final event of the East Anglia BMX Region summer calendar, The Regional Championship, took place last Sunday at the new track of the Norwich BMX Club. The event attracted almost 140 riders from across the region including 19 from the Royston Rockets club. The weather was dry and very sunny which made conditions dusty and slippery for the riders and the long straights made the going tiring for riders of all ages in the unusual September heat.
This event does not have separate Novice and Expert classes and all abilities ride together to gain points for their club. In the 6 and Under boys Brendan Salmon took 3rd in the B final and Alfie Salmon and Louis Foreman took 6th and 7th respectively in the 7yr class. In the 8yr male class James King finished in 2nd whilst Marmaduke Birt took the win in the class B final just heading home Benjamin Mansfield in 2nd and Nate Ridgewell in 4th. The Rockets took more podium positions in the 9yr class with Daniel Blanche taking the win ahead of Myles Fisher who claimed 2nd. The 10yr class saw Bradan Blanche taking 5th whilst in the 11's Matthew Harris took 7th. In the 13's James Handleigh took another win and in the 15 year class Andrew Brooker took 3rd to further boost the clubs ranking points whilst the Masters class (30+) saw Darren Foreman take 7th.
In the Girls 7 and Under class Ella Tomsett took 3rd in her first regional level event away from her home club and in the 16 yr and over Female category Katie Roberts took more points with a fine 2nd.
In the Cruiser categories Matt Salmon took 4th in the 30-39 class and Danny Ancell, riding in the 40-44 class finished in 4th whilst Carl Birt took another 1st in the 45+ category.
