*UPDATED: Bournemouth to replace Birmingham as final round location*
Cheddar, Derby, Braintree, Manchester, Gosport and Bournemouth will all play host to the 2010 National series, following an unprecedented level of competition at the bidding stage.
During the bidding process, the 2010 National BMX Series received an unprecedented 11 applications for 5 events. All applications provided worthy locations, but with an aim of providing a truly national series, only one application from each of BMX's 5 regions were put forward.
Due to Birmingham's successful bid for the 2012 World Championships and a round of the European Series in 2011, Birmingham were due to be granted an event as an additional race weekend. However, due to work on Birmingham's new track in Perry Park taking longer than projected the round hs been relocated to Bournemouth.
Several new venues will be on the National Series calendar for the first time. Braintree in Essex have one of the strongest and most successful clubs in the UK. With a new track built in 2009 and proposed spectator improvements planned for 2010, expect Braintree to be one the best attended events of 2010. Not to be outdone, Gosport BMX Club have come along way in a short time. Excellent full track spectator capacity combined with an extended track will ensure a great atmosphere at this coastal town in Hampshire.
Manchester's new facility at Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield proved popular with riders, spectators and officials by winning the best event award of 2009. Manchester's excellent facilities combined with a few new track changes should ensure Manchester puts on a another good show.
Rounding off the series will be the tried and tested venues of Cheddar in Somerset and Derby BMX Club based in Alveston Park. Despite Derby's relative youth as a club, they put on a fantastic first event in 2009. We'll also be revisiting Cheddar in September for the end of season spectacular "The British BMX Championships". Cheddar's 5 star camping facilities, Bar and Restaurant have really raised the bar for BMX by hosting multiple International and Championship events. The event organisers have a great weekend of racing starting Friday evening the 17th of September with £5,000 of prize money on offer.
