Cumbernauld in Scotland hosts rounds five and six of the HSBC UK | BMX National Series as the competition reaches the halfway stage.
It is the third consecutive year the BMX National Series has visited Cumbernauld BMX Club with the overall standings in the 12-round series starting to take shape.
How the series works
Riders are rewarded points based on their results in each round (up to maximum of 100 points per round). A rider’s best seven results from the series makes up their total. The rider with the highest total in their respective category is crowned BMX National Series champion.
Superclass
Burnham BMX Club’s Curtis Manaton took the double in Birmingham at rounds three and four. It was a first outing in the 2017 series for the defending champion who will be back in Scotland this weekend.
Series leader Kye Whyte has made his UCI BMX Supercross World Cup debut since Birmingham with back-to-back weekends in Papendal and Zolder, and returns to the domestic scene with four valuable race days in world-class company under his belt.
Paddy Sharrock took second at round four at Perry Park and, like Whyte, has also been on the world cup scene while Billy Luckhurst and Euan Hunt are set to make the trip having performed well in all four rounds to date.
Championship women
Charlotte Green has been the consistent performer so far, the Cornwall BMX Racing Club rider second in each round so far to top the standings.
Bethany Shriver returns to the series having delivered a career-best finish of sixth at round two of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Papendal.
The 18-year-old won both Birmingham rounds in the BMX National Series after a mixed opening weekend in Manchester.
Emily Green and Lauren Stack have been strong performers to date and both will be on the start gate.
Venue
Opened in July 2014, Cumbernauld Centurions BMX Club’s international standard track cost £420,000. Floodlit and hosting events up to and including Pro Circuit and Youth Olympic level, it will now host its third BMX National Series race.
