About our club
Cardiff Ajax Cycling Club was founded in 1948 above Reg Braddick’s cycle shop in Broadway. Betty Braddick came up with the title AJAX, after the Greek God Ajax, meaning fleet of foot, so Cardiff Ajax it was and still is.
We have members involved in almost all cycling disciplines - road, gravel, mountain, cyclocross, audax and time-trialling. We also organise several races across the year.
Ajax aims to provide rides suitable for all ages and abilities.We firmly believe that cycle sport has the power to change lives and help make the world a better place, but it must be accessible to all. We are committed to making our club as open and inclusive as possible.
The main event of the week is the Sunday club run from Maindy (09:30 in the winter and 09:00 in the summer). Several groups go out, covering different distances and speeds.
We also offer coached sessions on Maindy Track: our popular Monday and Wednesday sessions cater for all abilities with a mixture of fitness and skills training.
Other activities include our Wednesday night chain gang and Thursday night time-trial in the summer months, regular Women only rides, fixed wheel track riding at Newport Velodrome and cyclocross skills sessions.
Club socials occur throughout the year, these are advertised on our facebook and ticketsource pages. This is a great way to come and find out more about joining us and what else the club gets up to during the year.
