About our club

Founded in 2016, Oxford Cycling Club, aka OCC, is a friendly and welcoming cycling club for Oxford.

Club rides are held every Saturday and often Wednesday mornings and leave from outside Bike Zone on St Michael's Street in the historic centre of Oxford. Our club rides are lively and challenging, but always rooted in disciplined riding and we always ensure that everyone is well looked after, especially those joining us for the first time. We have several experienced ride leaders and each week groups head out to the Cotswolds, the Chiltern Hills or the Ridgeway. The average speed can vary according to weather conditions and ability, but expect an overall average of around 16-18mph for the medium rides, and 18mph -19mph for medium-fast and over 19-20mph for fast rides of 60-70 miles in good weather, so ideally suited to riders with a decent level of fitness and endurance. Experience of riding in a group is not necessary - you will be looked after. Please contact us directly if you want any further information of ride length and tempo.

In addition to our weekly club rides, members organise mid-week rides, Thursday evening rides in the summer, and the club also organises trips away to parts of the country within relatively easy reach of Oxford and overseas. We also hold social events throughout the year, so check out our website and Facebook page for any upcoming events or rides.

But it’s not all about the bike. OCC has teamed up with Sobell House Hospice and a proportion of all funds raised by OCC will be heading in the direction of this admirable Oxfordshire charity. Since 2016 we have raised over £5,000 for Sobell through kit sales, memberships fees and social events.

PLEASE NOTE; We require members to hold British Cycling membership in either Ride, Race Silver or Race Gold categories so that we can be sure everyone has 3rd party liability cycle insurance. We do this out of a desire to be a responsible club.
