Throughout 2022 we will once again be shining a light on the brilliant work our facilitators and volunteers do for all forms of cycling. We want to acknowledge the huge contribution volunteers make to cycling and recognise the wide variety of roles undertaken to activate, support, lead, and deliver at all levels.
Each month, we are taking nominations from across the regions and home nations. If you think someone deserves a mention, get in touch on social media with your respective regional or national teams or via @BCCoaches on Twitter.
We want to say thank you to ALL volunteers who have supported cycling, at all levels, thoroughout all the challenges 2021 has thrown at us. Without your enthusiasm and commitment we could not deliver at the levels we do.
A huge thank you and well done to all that have been nominated in January 2022 for their ongoing commitment to our sport and to those who may have volunteered for the first time have engaged new riders in their clubs, activities, or groups. Name: Tracey Reeve
Region: Eastern
Role: Club Secretary & Track Rebuild Project Lead
Tracey volunteers her time at Ipswich BMX Club in the Eastern Region and is club secretary.
The efforts that Tracey has made will change not only the fortunes of the existing Ipswich BMX club but for all those joining well into the future. She has taken what was the oldest BMX track in the country into the newest, the fund raising efforts has allowed a great facility to be built, not only the track but also a club house that will enable education and developement off the bike to take place, within the region already we have had members of the Cyclo-Cross community using it as a training venue and flying start coach education programes are already planned.
Sarah Mortimer, Senior Manager Community Engagement at Community Action Suffolk, one of the partners in the project, said “Working with Tracey from IBMX Club has been a real pleasure and it’s been great to have been on this journey with them. Working with Voluntary & Community Sector groups committed to making positive changes for the community is what CAS is here for. This new track will be a phenomenal asset not just for the club but anyone who comes to use it. The club encourages riders of all ages to get involved at all levels from leisure to regional and national competition standard and outside of club times the track will be open to the public. It’s so inspiring to work with groups such as IBMX Club who are all volunteers and dedicate their time and energy to ensuring dreams become a reality for the community”
Tom Hunt MP commented that "Clearly excellent resources such as Ipswich BMX track are great from the perspective of encouraging physical exercise but it also gives young people in the area something very positive to get involved in and aspire towards. Potentially even keeping them out of trouble. As you will know, the track sits at the heart of the Gainsborough community where there are pockets of significant deprivation. Tracey Reeve and others have done a great job leading the fundraising efforts. British Cycling made the major contribution here and it was clear when I met with them how much importance they place on supporting grass roots clubs such as Ipswich BMX Club"
However, the project hasn't finished! Tracey is still active in pushing forward to look for more funding towards fencing and lighting to further enhance and improve delivery at the site.

Without the tireless efforts of ALL the cluster coaches/leads its a fact that the Go-Ride Track Cluster programme would not have happened over the 18months.
New organisers have stepped up and 2 x leads are not even coaches. They have rallied the troops (volunteers) ensuring our young riders continue to have these much needed opportunities through these times...... valuable track time for riders/coaches/parents & clubs....

Name: Keith "Keefer" Brown and Nicky Pearman (Knightwood BMX)
Region: South - Kinghtwood BMX, South Region BMX
Role: Club Administration; Coaching; Event Organising, and more!
"Keefer" - The Knightwood man that if not doing what he does, the club wouldn't run. Always first there and last to leave and with the patience of a saint, while also enjoying his own racing too. Nicky is not only the admin guru of Knightwood BMX, but she's also the first and last person at all the club events. She has all the answers and the positive reminders to members about anything and everything you need to have the best experience in BMX biking.

Name: Kev Jones
Region: Central
Role: Wokingham Cycling Club Chairperson; Level 2 Ride Leader
Kev volunteers in the central region as an active member of Wokingham Cycle Club which he has chaired for the last 4 years. He has organised private Ride Leader courses for the club and encouraged interested members to become coaches. When he started at the club in 2015 they only had 1 female member and he has actively encouraged new females members and leaders.
After four years as Chair and Club Captain Kev has stepped down from the role of Chair this week. In year one he helped to define their vision, identity, and club culture. During his time as the chair of the club he has managed the growth of club membership to over 200 members, with nearly 50 female members. They are excited as the new 2022 committee will be a 50-50 male/female split, which is remarkable. He leaves the role with the club having a good and financially viable 2022 plan in place, which will enable a very smooth transition.
The Central Team all agree that Kev Jones has been pivotal in the increase in cycling in the Wokingham area and has contributed to the significant increase the female participation in the Club.
Kev has shown great passion for club cycling. This is clearly visible on the club website where the benefits of becoming a member of the club are clearly shown through his work and the support of other club members. 'We share a love for road cycling, live in the Wokingham area, and organise regular social events where we can get used to seeing each other without our cycling helmets!
