British Cycling can today announce that the 2024 National Cyclo-cross Championships will be held in Scotland for the very first time, in Falkirk’s Callendar Park.

The championships will take place over the weekend of 13-14 January, after the venue successfully hosted rounds of the National Trophy in each of the past two years. Home to the 14th century Callendar House, the park provides a stunning backdrop to the racing, with the challenging course quickly becoming a firm favourite of riders and spectators alike.

The championships comes at the end of National Trophy Series, which will be contested over six rounds and will all be on the UCI calendar as C2 events. Beginning in South Shields on the weekend of 7-8 October after a successful debut event at Gypsies Green in 2022, the series will then move on to a brand new venue at Thornton Hall Country Park in Thornton-in-Craven (14-15 October) for round two, before round three at Moorways in Derby two weeks later (28-29 October).

Riders will then return to Torbay Velopark on 11-12 November, after another successful debut in 2022, before the penultimate round at Cyclopark in Gravesend on 9-10 December. The series then concludes in the new year in Tong, Bradford from 6-7 January.

British Cycling’s Acting Cycling Delivery Director, Jonathan Day, said:

“We’re delighted to be taking the National Cyclo-cross Championships to Scotland for the first time in 2024, after some fantastic work from the organising team to deliver such a popular and challenging National Trophy event in its first two years.

“Following soon after this year’s UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and across Scotland, the event further cements Scotland’s reputation as a welcoming home of our sport’s biggest events, and I’m sure that the riders will already be looking forward to battling for the national champions’ jerseys in the beautiful surroundings of Callendar Park.

“Our national cyclo-cross events continue to welcome huge numbers of riders to our start lines, across the age categories. With the National Trophy Series spanning from Torbay to Gypsies Green on the North East coast, I’m really proud once again that we’re able to give so many riders a chance to compete and potentially go on to emulate the feats of Tom Pidcock, Zoe Backstedt and others before them.”

National Cyclo-cross Championships event organiser Fraser Johnston said:

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to host the 2023/24 National Cyclo-cross Championships, after hosting two years of thrilling rounds in the National Trophy Series.

“Callander Park is an exciting and technical course which is entertaining for both the riders and spectators. The past two editions have been heralded as great all-round challenges for the riders, and we hope to see strong fields joining us again in January. The course offers countless vantage points to take in the action, which makes it a great day out for all the family, and we look forward to yet again welcoming big crowds to Falkirk.”
