National Schools of Racing - Cyclo-Cross, Mallory Park

Bookmark and ShareEvent date: 29 October 2009

John Scripps writes: Well the summer has gone and we are into the cross season again and it is time for another Mallory park session or National Schools of Racing (NSR) as we call them.

The session will be cyclo-cross specific and take place at Mallory Park in Leicestershire on the 29th of October. Due to increasing safety issues around circuit use, level of session to experience of rider and over subscription (which is a good thing) we are tightening up the criteria as to who is eligible for the sessions. Also, this is a Talent Program session and the Talent programme in its 2 tier form is in place to cater for riders in across these age categories only
For 2009 we are going to have a maximum of 100 subscriptions and as with other years these will be taken from email application. As soon as we have 100 suitable applications, entry will close.

With your application you must be able to prove:
• You are birth years 1993, 1994 or 1995.
• Regularly racing at a regional and or national level.
• Evidence of participation in Go-Ride club or holiday scheme or BC or British Triathlon GROUP coaching sessions.

Over the last few years we have had increasing numbers of riders who are complete novice attending sessions. Dropping these riders into sessions as technically testing and at the speeds we expect has caused safety issues for those riders and the riders around them. It has also been a very negative experience for those young riders who are just buying into our mega sport. Our main objective is to create a real fun learning experience not demotivate and injure.

If you feel this rules you out of the NSR, we advocate that you should be looking to take part in some local club activity or Go-Ride holiday sessions and then move on to some low level regional racing. Together with our Go-Ride colleagues we can steer you in the right direction. You can find a list or your regional go-ride team here: Regional-Development-Staff

Applications need to be emailed to John Scripps by Friday 23rd October on johnscripps@britishcycling.org.uk. From this you will receive a parental consent form and session details. Please call on 07515 606630 if you have any questions.

If you are a coach who is actively delivering youth sessions and in reading this feel like you would like to receive the session objectives and plans please contact us and we can pass them on. The sessions will be open to coaches wishing to observe and time will be given post session to take Q and A on what we did and why. As I have said, the session will be cyclo-cross only but we will accommodate riders with Mountain bikes if you do not own a cyclo-cross bike. We do however prefer you to have the correct machinery.

Note: THIS DAY IS NOT ABOUT SELECTION TO ANYTHING IT IS ABOUT A LESSON IN RACING!

O.K. guys get mailing and let's have a top time.
