Oldham Slogs to Richmond Win

VIDEO - SENIOR & JUNIOR RACE

Richmond School welcomed the seventh round of the Yorkshire Points Series and organiser Keith Murray had sorted a great course with a good mix of terrain. However, the weather gods were clearly in a foul mood and heavy rain falling on already saturated ground produced a classic mud-bath. Happily, the mud was not sticky in nature and bikes pretty much kept going, whilst riders slowly changed into brown, dripping blobs.

The senior race was led from start to finish by Paul Oldham who simply rode away from the rest of a high-quality field and was able to concentrate on looking after himself and his bike as he soloed to a convincing win.

Behind him, there was a compelling battle for second between Oldham's team-mate Dave Collins, Rob Jebb and Ian Bibby. All three broke clear at one point or another, but first Jebb and then Bibby had to give best to the strength of Collins, who claimed second just under a minute down on Oldham. Bibby was third with Jebb fourth. Tom Moses was the first Junior home in sixth.

Earlier, Matt Denby made it seven wins in seven starts as he continued his total dominance of the Veterans' series. Team mates Jonathan Watson and Steve Barnes made it a Zepnat one-two-three. Adela Carter smiled through the mud to claim the women's race.

The youth race saw another fine battle in the mud with Adam Martin and Ed McParland going head-to-head for the first two laps before Martin broke clear to claim the win by over a minute in the end. Joseph Moses was third, with first under-14 Billy Harding fourth.

The Under-12 riders coped brilliantly with perhaps the worst of the rain. Using a short but testing lap, they seemed to revel in the mud and Thomas Mein duly took the win from Miles Warner, with Emma Brady first girl in third. Sam Murray was the first under-8 finisher in a creditable 11th place.
