West Midland Cyclo Cross League & British Cycling Go-Ride Cyclo Cross Races held at Lichfield’s Friary Grange Leisure Centre.

The WMCC season came to an end on February 13 with a special event organised jointly by BC’s Go-Ride & WMCCL. The day started off with snow flurries for the Under 10’s Go-Ride race which was quickly followed by the Under 12’s Go-Ride race. Both events were organised by BC’s Go-Ride Coach Craig Ansell and were well supported by a good field of riders of various abilities. The early snow and extremely cold conditions didn’t discourage any of the Riders from taking part and both events were well contested.

This year’s Under 23’s National Cyclo Cross Champion Jamie Harris (Cult Racing) and 50+ National Cyclo Cross Champion Ian Wright (Raleigh Avanti RT/Michelin/High5) dominated the days special West Midlands Cyclo Cross event which was organised by last week’s 50+ Silver Medallist Martin Eadon.

Harris and Wright started from the back at the start but both quickly took to the front as the race got under way. Jamie Harris (Cult Racing) worked hard from the start with Peter Harris (Pearce Cycles RT) but Ian Wright (Raleigh Avanti RT/Michelin/High5) was forced to chase as the Harris’s lead quickly grew.

Jamie Harris quickly took the initiative to break away from Peter Harris and powered away to win having lapped the whole field after 45 minutes of racing. Wright eventually caught Peter Harris and took the victory in the Vets category.”
