Junior rider Harry Franklin (Hargroves Cycles) secured victory in the opening round of the Mosquito Bikes London Cyclo-Cross League with a confident display at Fowlmead Country park in Kent on Sunday.

The 16-year-old from Bromley showed just what a classy rider he is becoming with the win against a field containing some of the region's best senior and veteran riders, and on a day where heavy showers and wind made for challenging conditions.

Arctic Premier RT rider Matt Holmes and Gary Record (Bike Tart.com) set the early pace on the first lap, but Franklin hit the front about a third of the way through the race before forging on alone.

After puncturing on the first lap, his team-mate at Hargroves Steven James had picked his way back through the field, and as Holmes and Record dropped back he made his way into second spot, with only Franklin able to resist his challenge.

GS Invicta's Jon Lyons was top veteran and took seventh spot overall, while Delia Beddis (Vicious Velo) was fastest woman.

The London League continues this Sunday (September 18) at the Redbridge circuit in London.
