Report: Snowdon Sports

Cult Racing's Dan Booth secured a narrow victory in the fourth round of the Notts and Derby Cyclo-Cross League, run off on the popular Allestree Park course in Derby on Saturday.

31-year-old Booth from Market Bosworth took the win by just a couple of inches in a dramatic sprint finish to the seven-lap race, while Dave Collins (Hope Factory Racing) was edged out into second spot.

Despite the hot and sunny conditions the race was run off at a fast pace on the Allestree course, which was slightly extended from the usual version but used much the same course and included a small wooded area, although with wide tracks through it did little to slow the pace.

Booth and Collins were at the front of the race virtually throughout, while the battle for the final podium spot behind was won by Sigma Sport's Steve Lampier, 27 and from Cornwall, who was 1:03 off the pace.

Joe Kirkham (Hargroves Cycles) was top junior in seventh spot, while Matt Denby (Zepnat RT) was fastest veteran and Aron Marshall (Sherwood Pines) was pick of the Under-23s in 13th place. And Denby's team-mate at Zepnat, Diane Lee, was fastest woman.

Derby Mercury RC's Tom Weeds won the youth race, holding off Matlock CC's Arthur Green by 43 seconds, while Rutland Velo's Oliver Maxwell was third, 1:56 off the pace.
