Event: 26 November 2011
Report: Snowdon Sports

Tim Guy (Iceni Velo) boosted his hopes of winning the Eastern League title when he won the latest event, staged by Diss CC at Redgrave Activities Centre in Norfolk on Saturday.

Guy, 32 and from Norwich, was 37 seconds ahead of his nearest rival as he took victory in Round 11 to add to his previous victory in Round 8 at Furze Hill in Essex.

He is now just eight points behind the league leader Hayden Wood (unattached) who has also won two rounds, but is slightly ahead because of better minor placings.

Second over the line on Saturday was elite veteran Greg Simcock (Team Corley Cycles) from Cambridgeshire who was best elite vet for the third time in three riders in the Eastern League, and he held off league leader Wood from Cambridge by just four seconds.

In the regular veterans category, Iceni Velo were celebrating again as their rider Phil Buick took victory for the seventh time in eight races to boost his league lead. The 55-year-old from Wymondham was 19 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Shaftesbury CC’s Bruce Robinson, while the battle for third saw CC Breckland’s John Periam sprint to victory by inches ahead of two other riders.

While Greg Simcock was top elite veteran, Katy Simcock (Hope Factory Racing) was first of the women and crossed the line more than two minutes ahead of her nearest rival Emma Johnson.

But Johnson, the 32-year-old XRT-Elmy Cycles rider from Iken in Suffolk, took maximum points towards the league. It is the third time this season she has taken the maximum 50 points and sees her move up to fourth overall despite only having ridden seven events while most of her rivals have ridden the required eight events already.

Promising junior rider Sherilyn Powell (Chelmer CC) took third on the day to consolidate third spot in the overall women’s rankings.

And in the youth race, Cameron Woolsey (CC Ashwell) took over the league leadership when he won round 11 – his first win of the series and his eighth ride which puts him on a par with his rivals for the title.
