GILES Drake (Herbalife-Leisure Lakes) secured a second consecutive victory in the North West League when he won round six at Otterspool Park in Liverpool, promoted by East Liverpool Wheelers on Saturday.

The 29-year-old from Wirral crossed the line alone, around 30 seconds clear of his nearest rival after steadily pulling clear to victory on a dry day which saw mud in places and some breeze.

On the first lap he was third in a small group which also included James Dalton (Pedalsport CC), Matthew Lawton (Macclesfield Wheelers) and Scott Wilson (Manchester Wheelers), but by the second lap Drake had hit the front and begun pulling out a lead on his rivals.

Lawton looked set for second spot, but on the penultimate lap Dalton made his move and left Lawton – who was second in the previous week’s race – third this time.

Birkenhead North End CC junior Robert Rogers rode well to take sixth overall, just behind Scott Wilson (Manchester Wheelers) and Richard Wilkinson (Logo 9 MBI) in fourth and fifth respectively.

Pete Middleton (Zepnat RT) and Adrian Lawrence (Team Elite) made up the first two placings in the veterans race for another week, Middleton battling through the first after being seventh on the opening lap.

He only hit the front on the penultimate lap, while Lawrence held off Jerrod Hartley (Horwich CC) for runner-up spot.

Fastest female was junior Jessica Wilkinson (Birkenhead North End CC) who beat prolific North West winner Becky Preece (Contessa Scott). And in the youth race Joseph Peatfield (Bolton Hot Wheels) took the win.
