After securing his first win of the season in the previous week’s Eastern League race, Ross Tricker (XRT-Elmy Cycles) continued the winning habit when he won the Colchester Rovers cross staged at Mistley in Essex on Sunday.
The 33-year-old from Ipswich crossed the line more than two and a half minutes clear after a dominant performance, and now leads the overall standings after eight rounds having never finished lower than fourth in any of the seven races he has taken part in.
Second this week was Tim Guy (Iceni Velo) who was the 2012-13 league champion but was riding his first race of the series at Furze Hill. Guy was in turn was well clear of Darren Barclay (Arctic SRAM) in third by about another two minutes.
Notching up his fourth victory in the series so far, Dave Copland (Ipswich BC) won the veterans race by 39sec from Richard Muchmore (Revel Outdoors), while Hackney GT rider Konrad Manning was another minute off the pace in third spot.
But the shock ride was by 12 and 24 hour MTB specialist Mark Wellsted (Amis Velo) who opened a 42 second lead at the end of the first lap, making full use of his disc brakes on the numerous sharp drops and corners and rolling his 29er wheels over the grass sections.
However the Colchester distance man trains for more modest race speeds and faded to fourth place by the finish.
Sherilyn Powell (Chelmer CC) was the fastest female in 40th overall, holding off her nearest rival Joanne Newstead (Elmy Cycles) by 2-15.
And Iceni Velo youngster Dougal Toms was well clear in the youth race, taking the win by more than two minutes over William Raymond (Welwyn Wheelers).
The series takes a break next weekend for the second round of the National Trophy Series in Southampton and the Inter Area Team Championships the following week, but returns with round nine at Fakenham in Norfolk on November 17.
