National over-50 champion Steve Davies (Hargroves Cycles RT-Specialized) dominated his younger rivals to score a clear victory in Exeter Wheelers’ South West League promotion at Ottery St Mary.
Fresh from his third National Trophy win of the season, the Bideford 53-year-old put the hammer down from the start on a muddy but rideable Escot Park course and built up a commanding lead by half-distance in the 12-lap race.
Behind Davies, over-40 winner Tim Carpenter (360 Performance) and senior Matt Loake (Southfork Racing) swapped positions all the way through before the former gained the ascendency on the final lap to secure second place overall.
The event attracted the biggest field of the series so far with 87 riders contesting the main race and 120 starters across all the age groups.
