Sarah Storey gets a blue rainbow jersey to go with the green Paralympic ones she has a collection of.
It was an excellent ride from Sarah who has followed up a training camp in Italy with the World Masters as preparation for the World Paracycling Championships that take place in Italy in early September. Sarah commented that as soon as she set off on the time trial she felt strong enough to win.
In the Road Race held on Thursday 27th August, Sarah followed up her time trial with a second place. On a 40km course, Sarah formed part of the breakaway of six riders which included Ann Bowditch from Great Britain, two Italians, a German and the former champion from the USA, Ann Jennings. The Italian managed just to beat Sarah across the line.
Photos show Sarah receiving her winner’s jersey from cycling legend Francesco Moser. So far this hasn’t tempted Sarah into going for the hour record on the track.
Both Rik Waddon and Paralympic silver medallist in the time trial Darren Kenny (above) also competed in the time trial on the same course later in the day. Kenny’s time of 27.28 and Waddon’s 28.06 should put them in strong contention for the World Paracycling championships. Both riders compete in the 112km road race on Sunday with Sarah Storey competing in the Elite women’s 76km road race.
