Clennell Colossus - MTB Challenge

Offroad Endurance , Morpeth – Sunday, 12 Jun 2016

Event Summary

Event Overview

Take on the challenge of the mighty Cheviot Hills of Northumberland on this 50 mile or 25 mile endurance challenge.  Due to the overwhelming success of last years event we are limiting 2016 entries to 500 riders.

Want to go far and get high?  Northumberland National Park has some of the best mountain bike trails around with unrestricted off-road access for mile after mile as you climb uphill with burning muscles and tackle rapid downhill sections.  We've worked hand in hand with land owners, Northumberland National Park, Forestry Commissoin, MOD and many more to bring you this event.  This course will offer you a unique challenge as you try to get yourself round the ever undulating hills of the area.  This is not the Lake District or the west coast of Scotland but don't be fooled... there are some big hills in these here parts!  In total you will be climbing the equivalent of Ben Nevis one and a half times.

The long route takes you away from the delightful Clennell Hall and after a warm up 2 mile flat stretch it is straight down to business!  You fly round Kidland Forest whilsttaking in some cracking views before making your way round Uswayford and then coming to "the big one".  Riders have found a new level of respect for the climb that is Trows to Windy Gyle - what will give up first, your legs or your grip?  Following this beast you head back down via some great open fell riding down to the sanctuary of Barrowburn team room.  Then you tackling two evil climbs before making to back to Clennell.

The short route doesn't let you off easily - you skip Kidland and head straight to the big hills.

The event is friend and family friendly in that you can turn up for the day and do the route or you can make a weekend of it by taking advantage of our free camping (you must let us know), booking a room at the hotel, bunkrooms or any of the various B&B's in the area.  There is also a tea room part way round the course where any spectators can go and see the competitors after they have completed the first third of the event.
