Event Summary

Event Overview

The Shropshire Marches is an area that straddles the Welsh-English border, known for its rolling hills, farmland, woods and river valleys. The ride starts off in the historic village hall at the heart of Wistanstow – nestled away just off the A49, 6 miles south of Church Stretton. The ride is a charity fund raising event, organized by a group of local cycle enthusiasts – ‘The Pink Ladies’

A choice of two routes provides something for everyone:

  • Short One – 35 miles with 2000ft elevation gain – the ride meanders through the Clun Valley and returns along the edge of the lower slopes of the Long Mynd
  • Long One – 65 miles with 5000ft elevation gain – a challenging but rewarding ride which climbs up to Anchor, one of the area’s finest panoramas (as well as being the site of Shropshire’s highest pub!). The return leg climbs up to the back of the Long Mynd, skirting around the Stiperstones.

The majority of both routes will be navigated on rural roads that wind their way through the Shropshire Hills 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. The route will be fully signposted, with help at hand for any medical or mechanical problems.

Registration opens at 8.00am, breakfast is available on request.

Both rides will start with small staggered groups of riders:

Long One - 9.30am

Short One - 10.00am

Homemade cakes and tea will be in plentiful supply at the halfway feed station in Churchstoke and at the finish line in Wistanstow.

The event is supported by Wood’s Brewery, a family run brewery which has been based in the village since 1980. Each rider who completes the event will receive a bottle of Wood’s award winning beer to leave you with a taste of Wistanstow and help soothe the tired legs!

All funds raised from the event will go towards funding much needed repairs for the 200 windows around the Village Hall.
