History of The Big Cycle

The history of the Big Cycle route comes from an event which was started as a road race by the Port Talbot Wheelers in 1958 and grew to become one of the most famous races held in Wales. It was the only race in Wales which was given a Star Trophy status – this rating is now called Premier Calendar. Its popularity comes from the arduous course which takes in some of the most beautiful climbs in South Wales.

Nicole Cooke MBE & Olympic Gold Medalist

“I would recommend The Big Cycle route to anyone who loves to test themselves on a challenging course as it is packed with some of the toughest hills in South Wales. The organisers have decades of experience in cycling and know how to put on a great event that is also one of the most friendly I’ve participated in. My favourite part of the course is the Bwlch mountain as the climb has a steady gradient so it’s easy to get into a rhythm and when you get to the top the views are exceptional.”
