Tour of the Cornfields 2022

Offroad Endurance , Harlton – Sunday, 04 Sep 2022

Event Summary

Event Overview

- 22 AUG. ENTRY IS NOW FULL - The original and super popular Tour of Cornfields returns on Sunday 4 September 2022!  Organised once again by the team that runs London's Beastway series, MAAP London Summercross and cyclocross races in the Eastern and London Leagues.

Suitable for gravel bikes, cyclo-cross, MTB, hybrids and sturdy road bikes, this 100+ km off-road route loops around the bridleways, byways, lanes and minor roads in beautiful countryside between Cambridge, Sandy, Huntingdon and Royston. Our start is in the heart of a tiny village with dedicated parking. There is the half-way cake stop at a wonderful village hub with a secure paddock. oh, and what lovely cakes they are....!

Online routes for previous editions are all out of date. Only entrants will receive the full route info on the eve of our event. Make sure you supply an active email address for us to send you the route details.

You can ride at your own pace or team up with others as you follow the route we issue for GPS on the eve of the event. We also provide the route for your smartphone as routes and a map image. Our signage scheme is minimal but effective when we tell you what to look for.

A new route has been recce'd for this year's edition. The event has been run since 2006 and this year's route works new variations in with old favourites. Once again proceeds from this event will support the Eastern Region 'Contenders' cyclocross training days for youth riders run by Mark Wyer. We are proud to have made these effective training sessions possible. Look out for dates and details.

Turns out we are almost famous after a mention on Cycling Podcast's look at Gravel https://audioboom.com/posts/7985710-explore-gravel-at-a-crossroads With a mention at 19'30". Has it taken people this long to realise Tour of the Cornfields is the original Gravel event?!

This event is low-key. It's 'unsupported' (there is no sag-wagon) and it's greatly enjoyed by all who want a day out in lovely countryside.

Info for Riders

-22 AUG. ENTRY IS NOW FULL - 100km loop with 30% on road and 70% off-road on a mix of byways, bridleways and lanes in the fine gently rolling countryside of S Cambs, N Herts, C Beds, starting from a village cricket field with toilets and not much else.

Suitable for gravel bike, MTB, cyclo-cross, sturdy road bike or hybrid. Unsupported but with a superb half-way tea and rest stop. 50km option if requested. Starts from 9 - 9.30am. A friendly ride just before the 'cross season gets going. Event has been running since 2006, now with a greatly improved start/finish venue and a wider-ranging loop.

Pre-entered riders will receive the full route info on the eve of our event. Make sure you supply an active email address for us to send you the route details, so check your BC details or send us a 'real email' address to go with your paid entry to cornfields2016@btinternet.com

You can ride at your own pace or team up with others as you follow the route we issue for GPS. We also provide the route for your smartphone as routes and a map image. Our signage scheme is minimal but effective when we tell you what to look for at the rider briefing.
We estimate you will complete the ride in four hours but we know it will take some as long as seven hours. That's fine, our course sweepers will tell you when it's time to take a short cut home.

We start riders in small groups to avoid trail blockages. You will be informed of your start time, and the time at which you can arrive into the car parking. Your start time and finish times are recorded. Time spent at the mandatory refreshments stop is subtracted, which means you can take your time to enjoy the tea, somosa (we started the craze) and the cake.

This is an unsupported ride with no sag wagon but we have been known to retrieve a rider. Mainly it's nice to rely on the kindness of others or bring your own toolkit and spares. - You know what you're doing.
