THE SANTINI BOVINGDON BOMBER CRITERIUM SERIES 2023

Welcome to the Wednesday evening criterium racing series at the popular Bovingdon Bomber Cycle Circuit. The Bomber is a 1km long smooth purpose built racing circuit and is fast, flat, sweeping and technical and always produces good safe racing.

15 WEEKS OF WEDNESDAY EVENING RACING - WEDS 3rd MAY TO  WEDS 9th AUG 2023
This season we have increased our offering to offer some new races and championships. The King and Queen of the Bomber remain unchanged as do our popular 'Intro to Racing' evenings but we have added a new Rookie of the Year championship to come from the men's cat. 3/4 races and a Team of the Year where riders score team points in the King, Queen & Rookie races. We are putting on a Bomber Solstice WE123 Nat B race as well as other WE123 races. As ever, juniors are very welcome at all our races.

 Arrive & Sign on (NO EARLIER) 
6:45pm Circuit open
7:05pm Men's Race  (35-45 mins + 5 laps)
7:45pm Women's Race (35-45 mins + 5 laps)
(NOTE: The women's start time will vary slightly with changing daylight so be ready for 745pm )


ENTRY FEES
£17.00 in advance / £20 on the day. (The W3/4 womens Go Race events are £12) 

 

THE FOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR 2023
King of the Bomber - Men's cat 2/3 - Best 5 results from 7 rounds - Sprint primes
Queen of the Bomber - Women's cat. 2/3/4 - Best 5 results from 6 rounds - Sprint primes
Rookie of the Year - Men's cat. 3/4 - Best 5 results from 6 rounds
Team of the Year - Top 3 riders in a team finishing inside the top 15 in all King, Queen & Rookie championship races (points = 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1).
    

Standard BC Regional C+ ranking points for top ten: 1st=10,   2nd=8,  3rd=7,  4th=6,  5th=5,  6th=4,  7th=3,  8th=2,  9th=1,  10th=1
.
Bomber points mirror BC points and in the unlikely event that less than 10 riders start full Bomber points still apply.

 

In the event of a points tie at the end of the season the higher number of wins triumphs. If still a tie then a higher number of 2nd places, 3rd places triumphs etc. Sprint prime results do not count.

PRIZES
This season we intend to prioritise volunteer’s expenses over rider prizes. 
Winners on the night will get a free ride in the season (up to 3 max) and top three will receive a cool Santini Bomber cap!
The King, Queen and Rookie of the year will take the trophy and a framed & titled action photo from the season.

Team of the Year prize TBC 

SPRINT PRIMES IN KING, & QUEEN CHAMPIONSHIP RACES ONLY (2,1 Bomber Points) 
There will be a sprint prime lap at King & Queen championship races but never within the first or final 5 laps. The start of the sprint lap will be signaled by a long whistle on the line and the end of the lap by a waved white flag. The top two will take 2, 1 Bomber points.

 

HAIRPIN SHORTCUT - TO BE USED TO PREVENT DANGEROUS SPRINT FINISHES.
If the leading group are looking like they may end up sprinting to a finish into the back of a slower group a lap down then we may send the 'about to be lapped group" through the hairpin shortcut which will throw them 30 seconds up the circuit giving the lead group more space. Three Left Arrow signs will be shown to the group along verbal instructions. 

PULLED RIDERS 
If a single or small group of riders who are way out of the points are deemed to be a possible obstruction approaching the last lap then they will be pulled out after the 5 Laps to go board has been shown. Their finishing position will be where they finished at the end of the previous lap.

SIGNING ON & NUMBER PLACEMENT
Pre entry is preferred as it is quicker for everybody and cheaper for you ! Numbers need to be pinned LEFT ON YOUR BACK and LOW.  The parking area can be grimy and slippy so we suggest carrying the bikes to the circuit proper. 

FIRST AID
Although we have an excellent safety record at the Bomber, professional first aid is present at every round.


Refunds are only give in extreme cases and at the discretion of the Event Organiser - an entry is a commitment to ride. No transfers to other rounds.

Plug HP1 2RR into your sat-nav.

ACCESS BY CAR
If coming by car then access is from the A41 ONLY (there is no access through the main Bovingdon Market entrance on the Chesham Road). You need to leave the A41 at the Services (McDonalds) junction between Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted/Chesham and head up Upper Bourne End Lane which is signposted Motorsport Academy. Hear right at the top of the lane.

ACCESS BY BIKE
Access by bike is through the industrial area up Bourne End Lane off the London Road in Bourne End. Head up through the restriction to the roundabout where you need to turn left, go under the bridge and turn right then and head up Upper Bourne End Lane. Note the surface up this road is particularly bad and punctures are frequent.

ENTRY & PARKING
At the top of Upper Bourne End Lane you need to head right and drive through the main gates then carry on for approx 350 meters driving past all the storage units and with the clubhouse on your left. Take the right fork heading down to the car park which you will need to turn left into.

For our evening races no entry through the main gates until 6.30pm on the weekday evening crits please. The circuit is shared with the car drifting company 'Driftlimits'.

We are a 10/15 minute ride from Hemel Hempstead train station if you are coming from London.
