HHV Inter Schools Championships

Track , London – Wednesday, 20 Mar 2024

Event Summary

Event Overview

Get your teams ready for our annual inter-schools track cycling competition!

On Wednesday 20th March 2024 we will be running an afternoon of racing on the main track of the velodrome for riders of all ages from 8 - 18.

Whilst it is of course a competitive event, we are passionate about making the racing inclusive to all so even if your young people have little or no experience on the track, please do get in touch and we can try to facilitate some training for you ahead of the event.

The championship (formerly organised by Dulwich College) has always been a really fun afternoon, last year with almost 100 young riders, a buzzing atmosphere, some great prizes (not just for race winners!) and with the cafe open to keep everyone fuelled with food and drinks throughout.

Subject to numbers of entries, there will be 4 categories for racing: U14, U16, U18 and Open Girls.  If we have sufficient riders born in 2012 and earlier (must be aged at least 8), we may run separate races for U12s.

U14 - born 2010 or earlier

U16 - born 2008 or 2009

U18 - both 2006 or 2007

Open Girls - all ages

We anticipate a race program (for more information about the races see below) to include:-

Flying 200

3-up Team Pursuit

Keirin

Scratch

Reverse Win Out

Schools are encouraged to send three riders (a team) for each category.  All riders will take part in the Team Pursuit, one rider (the 'sprinter') will undertake the Flying 200 and Keirin and the remaining two 'endurance' riders will take part in the Team Pursuit, Scratch and Reverse Win Out events.

Schools with more riders available are welcome to enter an A, B, C etc. team.

Over the course of the competition accumulated points contribute to the final standings of the teams in the overall championship. In the event of a tie in the final number of points for the competition, preference will be given to the quicker of the two teams in the Team Pursuit.

At the completion of the races, prizes will be awarded to each member of the first, second and third-placed teams in each category, and the school of the winning team in each category will be awarded the overall trophies for 2023.

Specific timings will be confirmed nearer the time but the track will be open for sign on, bike collection and warm up from 12:30 and we aim to finish the competition around 17:30.
