Beastway mountainbike race series celebrates its 31st season.

London’s famous weekly mountainbike races are back for 2024, with racing for everyone, every Wednesday evening in May and June. Races are at the purpose-built Redbridge Cycling Circuit, located on Hog Hill in Hainault with wide views to The City and Docklands. The race format sees all categories taking part in a 60-minute cross-country style race on a different and challenging course each week to make a lap of 3 or 4km from our 10km of trail options. Main race start is at 19:30

Before the evening's main race our u12 riders always get a shorter course which is suitable for a wide range of ages from 7 and up, but which doesn't patronise the fastest. Starts at 18:45

Youth and juveniles normally race in with the seniors, starting around 15-20 minutes later so they get to learn race craft with the best, and it's a slightly longer race than the nationals so fitness builds quickly.

Women are particularly welcome at all our races and we will ask about your gridding preference. (We shouldn't need to say this...)

With EIGHT rounds in the series it's your best SEVEN scores which count. Our unique and highly prized trophies are always sought after, though none more than those that were made by Turner prize-winning artist Grayson Perry one year.

Our race entry fees are the best value, friendly and competitive races around. Pre-entry has always saved you money, but now it's the only way to enter too. There is NO ENTRY ON THE DAY.

The pavilion will be open for toilets and rider check-in, plus lockers (£1 coin returned after use). Food and drink from the cafe there too.

We are always on the lookout for helpers to join in with running our races. Please let us know if you have a friend or supporter that otherwise might spectate and we can hand them something to do. beastway'at'btinternet.com is the contact to sort this out, which we must do in advance. If you want to marshal any week instead of racing, we will refund your advance entry fee and give you series points averaged to what you scored at other rounds.

In the u12 races, we expect the parents will want to help.

Info for Riders

Statement on 18 April 2024;-

All the course clearing is done, the number boards are ready, the calendar listing is complete for Beastway Wednesdays. 

However it's not good news

Sadly we have reached a point in our lives that we can't safely run the evening races at Beastway. Time was when one of us would scamper around and cover all the jobs but that was before a team came together to make races really run well. It's been great to see the series thrive with some great courses, good close races, people having fun, and then a bit sad to see the numbers tail off a lot since the time of Covid. Mainly though, we're each moving on to other roles in the sport or simply changes have come in our lives. We did indicate a need and it's evidently expecting too much of any volunteer to give time and work it takes to run a race like Beastway properly.  
Those trails don't clear themselves, the admin, the entries and results...

The calendared rounds on 1 & 8 May are closed to any new entrants and refunds given. The other rounds are 'pending' with BC but won't open. 

Our group is firm on running the Regional Champs on 9 June especially as it's an important event with medal awards. We might as well make it a last blast for us as an MTB organising team. 

Tour of the Cornfields on 1 Sept will run as normal and we're looking forwards to it. Summercross goes ahead. 

We think the vacuum of no Wednesday events will bring out volunteers to run a renewed series and we'll happily lend them resource. Maybe this will happen in 2025; it could start with you..? 

Personally speaking, it's a big issue to keep Beastway going as I ran the Eastway replacement campaign for ten years from 2003 to win us the relocation to Hog Hill and legacy at Velopark. I can't deliver races safely or responsibly on my own and it takes a solid team like we have been for you.
