Welsh Cycling are proud to host the 2025 Welsh Mountain Bike Championships in Cross Country and  Short Track Racing!

The races on Sunday 13th July are also Round 5 of the Welsh XCO Series 2025.

Due to the races being Championships, the Elite, Expert and Sport riders will be racing together over the same number of laps to contest the Senior Championship. This will mean one lap less than usual for the Elite and one lap more than usual for the Sport.

The closing date to be eligible for the Welsh Championship races will be:

• XCC (Short Track) 11pm Saturday 28th June 2025
• XCO (Olympic Distance) 11pm Sunday 29th June 2025.

Entries will reopen for late entries not eligible for the championship with a surcharge of £5 for adults.

The closing date for the non championship events will be Wednesday 9th July 2025.

There will be no entry on the day!

Cross country Mountain Bike racing is off-road cycle racing which takes place in a variety of off-road venues. Mountain Bike racing is often held in parkland, woodland, and forestry sites. These venues are designed to include climbs, decent and other technical features.

Short Track racing is typically a 20 minute a mass-start event that takes place on a very short, dirt circuit. The skill level and racing style required will depend on the terrain and the geographic location, however, in all cases, short track is an intense racing format.

Anyone can enter no matter what their age, ability or bike. Provided they have a helmet, and their bike is in good working order. There is a category for everyone and separate races for younger riders. Podium/prizes are awarded to 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd in each category.

Events are organised by local cycling clubs and take place across Wales at weekends throughout March to July. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and included courses that are well-planned and safe.

Short Track Championships are open to Juvenile/Youth/Junior/Senior/Veterans 

The Championships are an open event so that non Welsh eligible riders can enter.

However, riders must meet at least one of the eligibility criteria listed below in order to be eligible for the Welsh Championship title and medals. 

The Welsh Eligibility Criteria is:

• Rider to have been born in Wales
• Rider to be the son or daughter of a person born in Wales 
• Rider to have resided in Wales for 3 years consecutively prior to the date of the Championship

*Proof of eligibility may be requested by Welsh Cycling.

Chip timing will be available for all categories. Categories U8 - U10 are a non-championship event for the XCO Race.

Welsh XC Series:

To qualify for the overall series you must:

Start 3 out of 5 Rounds
Have either volunteered or provided a volunteer at a minimum of 1 event of the series

Team Competition

This year we will be running a team competition!
Open to all riders in the Under 14 and older categories for the title of Team Champions (Prize may or may not be given, it will be a surprise!) 
The best four riders from each club will score. This will make the competition far more open rather than limiting it to the clubs with the best attendance. However, there is a small catch: For four riders to score, at least two must be female (and, for equal opportunities, at least two must be male/open category). 

To be eligible someone from your team must also have volunteered at least one event in the series.
