The Otley One - Reliability Ride Sunday 2nd February 2025

£6 online.

This is ride 4 of the 'Terrific Ten' Yorkshire Reliability Rides. 

Otley Cycle Club has two glorious early season rides into the Yorkshire Dales:

  • a challenging 90K ride to Kettlewell and return to Otley  in 3.5 hours.
  • a lovely 50K ride to  Barden Tower and return via Cavendish Pavilion, Bolton Abbey in 3 hours.

Groups of cyclists work together to ensure that they get around the course safely and within time. All riders are required to be self-sufficient;  They need to repair their own bikes and take any food etc. with them on the ride. 

This event takes place on the open roads and rules of the Highway Code must be followed at all times. The wearing of suitable cycle helmets on the event is also mandatory.

E-bikes are welcome.

This reliability ride has been going for over 20 years. Profits go towards Otley Cycle Club's work to promote cycling.

About the Event

Info for Riders

Registration

Remember this is not a race!! We have to share the roads with other road users. Look after one another and have a safe ride.

Registration starts from 9.00 am at the Buttercross (LS21 3HN) in the market place in Otley town centre. . Riders registered in advance should still check-in to confirm participation and to check whether the rider is planning to return to Otley. On the day registration is also available for £6 payable by card or cash

To ease congestion at the start, we plan to release riders in groups of no more than 16 riders from 9.30 am with intervals of 1 minute and where possible in time slots of 24mph, 22mph, 20mph, 18mph, 16mph, 14mph, 12mph. Both rides will follow this plan.

Returning to Otley

On return, please sign off at Chevin Cycles, Otley Shop (LS21 1BR). This will allow the host team from OCC to check that all riders have returned safely. 

A warm welcome, tea/coffee, cakes and an abundance of sandwiches will be available at OCC's famous cafe located in their Club House just 50 yds down the cobbled lane from Chevin Cycles.

90k in 3.5 hours.

This is the only Reliability Ride to give riders a sense of the Dales.

Rolling start from 09:30 am : From Boroughgate by Buttercross Market Place, Otley, A65-Ilkley (traffic lights at Burley), Addingham, Bolton Abbey, Barden Tower, Appletreewick, Grassington, Conistone, Kettlewell, Kilnsey, Threshfield, Burnsall, Barden, Bolton Bridge, Addingham, Ilkley, Askwith, finish at Chevin Cycles in Otley.

50K in 3 hours

Rolling start from 09:30 am: As above to the Barden Tower / Barden Bridge. Turn rights at top of hill after bridge and return via back road through Cavendish Pavillion (dismount for short walk near cafe), Bolton Abbey, ilkley and Askwith,
