HALESOWEN A&CC ROAD RACE

Course:
Astley
Summary: Astley is arguably the classic West Midlands road race circuit, in regular use since the year dot and also a time trial course, with past winners including current WorldTour star Ben Healy. It’s tough but fair; there are no random winners here as the mix of technical roads and punchy little climbs weeds out the field, although it’s far from a pure climber’s course. After the start in Astley, the circuit drags up through the finish, then turns left for a downhill section before the kicker up into Great Witley; the stretch to Holt Heath is fast main road, before the rollers into Astley, a technical descent followed by the steep little ascent to the church and another rapid drop past the HQ.

Favours: climbers, puncheurs.

Recent winners: Lewis Tinsley (Nick Clayton Memorial 2024); Wan Lau (Halesowen RR 2024); Toby Barnes (Nick Clayton Memorial 2023); Felix Whetter (Halesowen RR 2023); Will Abbott (stage 4, BikeStow 3-day 2022); Jack Stanton-Warren (West Mids region champs 2018); Ben Healy (Halesowen RR 2017)

Total Length: 21.2 km Max Slope: 12 % Total Ascent: 282m
