Great Britain’s Annie Last continued her fine form ahead of the Olympics with another top ten finish as the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup resumed with round six in Windham, USA.
British Cycling Academy Programme rider Last finished in ninth place, replicating the result she achieved at last weekend’s round five in Mont Sainte Anne, Canada, as the searing temperatures made for tough conditions for the riders. The elite women’s race was eventually decided in a furious sprint, as Canada’s Catharine Pendrel crossed the line just one second ahead of Katerina Nash with Georgia Gould in third completing a 1-2-3 for the Luna Pro Team, Last coming in 3’03” behind the victor.
Olympic Podium Programme athlete Liam Killeen, also named in Team GB's cycling squad for the London Olympics, managed a season best result in the world cup series, securing 20th. In a race marred by a number of mechanical failures, South Africa's Burry Stander was the winner as the front five all came over the line within a minute of each other. Killeen ending 5'11" back from Strander.
Great Britain's Dave Fletcher, also on the Olympic Podium Programme, was in action and managed 38th, 7'38" back from the front.
In the men’s U23 category, Academy Programme rider Kenta Gallagher backed up his impressive eighth place in Canada with tenth, 3’20” back from winner Michiel Van Der Heijden of the Netherlands.
