The reigning world omnium champion, Ethan Hayter, is among the 20-strong squad selected to represent Great Britain in next week's UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Saint Quentin en Yvelines, France.

Hayter returns to the track after a string of strong results on the road this year in an attempt to defend his omnium world title. He will also compete in the men’s Madison event with Ollie Wood and complete the men’s team pursuit line up of Wood, Ethan Vernon, and Dan Bigham. Rhys Britton will be racing in the men’s scratch race with the aim to improve on his bronze medal result last year, while Will Perrett will join the men’s endurance squad for his first World Championships.

It will be the first event for the new women’s endurance coach Cameron Meyer, who started his role after retiring from his professional cycling career last month. Olympians Laura Kenny, Neah Evans, Katie Archibald, and Josie Knight will be joined by Megan Barker, as well as Anna Morris, Sophie Lewis, and Jess Roberts, who will be making their elite World Championship debuts.

Jack Carlin returns from injury to represent Great Britain in the men’s sprint events alongside fellow Scot Ali Fielding, and Hamish Turnbull. In the women’s sprint squad, Sophie Capewell has been selected, as have Lauren Bell and Emma Finucane who will compete in their first elite World Championships.

Great Britain Cycling Team Performance Director, Stephen Park CBE, said: “The Track Cycling World Championships are always a highlight of the year for the Great Britain Cycling Team. Some riders are coming into this competition for the first time since injury, and will be raring to go in a competitive environment, while some are making their elite World Championships debut and are chomping at the bit to show what they can do.

“We’re now at the start of Olympic qualification for track and, with these World Championships hosted at the 2024 Paris Olympic Velodrome, this will be a very exciting environment for the team to see where they could be competing in just under two years’ time - factors which, I’m sure, will make for a Track World Championships not to be missed.”

The UCI Track Cycling World Championships will take place between Wednesday 12 - Sunday 16 October 2022 in Saint Quentin en Yvelines, France.
